How-To: WOOD DIY Vapor Blast/Dry Blast Plans 42×30 & 60×40
Dude, I just built a BIG vapor blaster out 3 sheets of plywood and some 2×4’s! And guess what, you can swap it over to a dry blaster in a matter of minutes! One machine that can handle wet and dry blasting!
So, what gave me the idea is all the things we already use wood for in life, and now there are tons of products to make wood waterproof.
The goal here is to reduce cost. I built a fully loaded closed loop machine with immersion heater and all for about $3000. A retail machine with the same amount of features will set you back $7500. Does this work as well as the retail machines? YES!
Now, there are 2 sizes available: 42×30 or 60×40. The 60×40 should be able to fit most motorcycle frames.
If you are looking to build a smaller and less expensive machine, make sure to check out my harbor freight DIY vapor blaster plans.
Vapor Blast Wood?
In this video I vapor blast a bare piece of wood just to see what would happen. Turns out not much.
It Can Dry Blast Also!
If you are anything like me, you don’t have room for multiple cabinets, and dry blasting definitely has its place. Well, for roughly $300 in additional parts, you can quickly swap over from wet to dry, and back to dry in a matter of minutes and no tools required!
Larger 60×40 Size
Many have requested that I come up with a larger size in order to fit a motorcycle frame inside the cabinet. Below is a CAD model review video so you can see how much larger it is than the 42×30.
In this video I discuss more info on the 60×40 plans
1 Year Update
A year later and ZERO issues. It did not rot to the ground and still use it weekly to clean up a part here and there.
Example DIY Builds
Here are a couple of videos send in from people who bought the plans and decided to build a wood cabinet.
HTMR Blast Gun
I have also designed the HTMR Blast Gun to be much more efficient than other guns out on the market. If you buy the wood plans, you’ll receive a discount code so you can save a few bucks.
This is just a fantastic idea, I built two of these so far and we exchanged some emails way back, this is just a creative great application for what we are doing… I probably buy the plans, just to support you. I kept my first two builds really simple, electric foot switches, no control box, and now I have actually used a few alexa receptacles and things to to a voice command start up and shut down, but nothing as nice as yours.
Hmmm..voice commands. Fancy! I don’t use those devices as I feel they spy on me LOL.
Hi Matthew
Really impressed with your build of a timber based machine. I’m in Scotland UK but guess I could get hold of the same parts needed as in the US. How to I go about
Buying the plans / indtructions
Thanks

Thank you!
Hi dose the plans come in metric measurements ?
The 60×40 plans are dual dimensioned. I need to update the prints for the 42×30 plans to add metric.
Hi Really awesome, before i buy the plans for the small cabinet can you please tell me the minimum air requirements for satisfactory vapour blasting small motorcycle parts in preparation for cerakote , I am in Australia and can only run a single phase compressor with a max cfm free air of around 12, with a 100 litre tank.
Thanks
The HTMR 3hp gun works great with 10cfm. Here is the video of how it works: https://youtu.be/N18Q_a2cClM
Thanks for the answer – do both size cabinet plans now have sizes in Metric? And would the plans be good enough for me to give to a plywood cnc cutter place to cut all of the timber out for me as I need to make 2 cabinets. Thanks
Yes prints are dual dims (in/mm). I provide dxf files for the cnc router.
Matt
Matthew I tried to buy the wood blaster plans but it would not add it to the cart.

Hi there
Awesome work. I thinking about buying your plans, but was wondering if the electrical diagram and shopping list also is included in the plans, or is it only plans for the cabinet?
Everything is included. Wiring schematic (pdf) & parts list spreadsheet (pdf) with links on where to buy parts. The video shows you how to hook up every wire and install every single part.
